Working Families That Built Railroad Era Rehoboth
Rehoboth Beach Museum’s Paul Lovett History Series continues at Boardwalk Plaza Hotel’s Sussex Room on Thursday, February 6th at 7pm with Mr. Lovett’s presentation “Working Families That Built Railroad Era Rehoboth.” This presentation focuses on the working class people who ran the businesses, and kept the town running in the period between ca. 1901-1925: the inn keepers, the carousel and vaudeville theater operators, the lamplighter, the grocer, the livery men, among others.
This is a newly developed talk by Paul Lovett, who is a popular Rehoboth historian and the creator of the Rehoboth Beach Museum’s diorama display “The Golden Age of Rehoboth Beach.” The diorama, a miniature model of the city, is set back in time to circa 1910, the era when the railroad ran down Rehoboth Avenue. A train complete with smoke and whistle chugs down the main thoroughfare of the replica, as it did until upgrades to Delaware’s roadways led automobiles to eclipse locomotives as the preferred way to get to the beach.
Tickets for Mr. Lovett’s “Working Families” talk, being held at Boardwalk Plaza Hotel, may be reserved at rbmuseum.org, see Events. Seating is limited. This event is $25. All proceeds support the museum! The Rehoboth Beach Museum is closed January-February, opening on weekends, F, 10-4, and S-Sun, 10-2 starting in March. See the museum website rbmuseum.org for hours of operation and a full list of events. Call 302-227-7310 with questions.
Guests may also call Victoria’s Restaurant at the hotel at 302-227-0615 for a 5-5:30 pm dinner reservation before the lecture (not included in lecture fee).
